Hackel’s illegal withholding of money approved by the Macomb County Commission to fund the hiring of four badly needed staff positions. The fact is that Executive Hackel initiated the investigation of Prosecutor Lucido only after he pursued litigation to stop Mr. Hackel’s reelection campaign at the same time its lawyers were scrutinizing Mr. Moreover, a recent Detroit Free Press report included the revelation that the investigative law firm hired with a no-bid contract made a major financial contribution to Mr. Lucido, this foolishness could cost Macomb County taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Given the two high-priced, Detroit-based law firms that Executive Hackel retained to go after Mr. Macomb County Executive Hackel’s long political fishing expedition against Macomb County Prosecutor Lucido must end.

Green and any council member who would allow this should be ashamed. Instead of doing in the opaque and underhanded way this Council has become known for, this is a process that needs to be done openly. This is a change that will be with the city for a decade. There is more than ample time to involve the community, post the proposed new districts, make clear what the changes were and what the basis for the changes were. This process, for which the data has been in hand for months, does not need to be completed until four months prior to the next municipal election. Even worse, the process by which council is conducting this is in direct conflict with the Warren City Charter. Last week the Warren City Council, under the leadership of Council President Patrick Green, was prepared at a meeting called with barely 24 hours public notice to enact redistricting of the council districts with effectively no public input.
